Chibli Mallat, 64, is a Lebanese lawyer, academic scholar, and political and human rights activist. He has been put forward by leading Lebanese political figures to be the next president of Lebanon.
He is known for litigating major international cases, including against Ariel Sharon for the Sabra and Shatila massacres in 1982, and against Muammar Qaddafi for abducting Imam Musa Sadr in Libya in 1978. He is also known for his academic work in various fields, including Shi‘ism, Iranian constitutionalism, and Islamic and Middle Eastern law. We put some questions to him after his recent meeting with Sheikh Naim Kassem in Beirut. more
