- On Saudi-Iran agreement under Chinese aegis: mostly important for Yemen, hopefully will end the tragic war. Important also in geo-strategic terms as perceived Saudi provocation of the US, with potential consequences on their century-old privileged relationship

- Limited impact on Lebanon, but encouragement to hold presidential elections.

- Presidential elections mostly an internal Lebanese matter, for the first time since 1970.

- Deadlock known to all. Constitutionally, no meeting if one third of deputies boycott.

- Politically, a president who comes in antagonism to any important party, including in particular the Lebanese Forces and Hizbullah, can simply not govern.

- On Taef: Taef's unfulfilled agenda departing point, but it does not address the major problem, which is the sectarian-based troika.

- In Lebanon, federalism, which is an advanced democratic system, is misunderstood. It is a form of decentralization constitutionally, but it paradoxically reinforces central power. For a small country like Lebanon, there is also an issue of costs.

- On the weapons of Hizbullah, there is need for new ideas to achieve Max Weber’s definition of the state as the holder of the monopoly of violence in the country.
